Vincent P. Vingiguerra, M.D.
Dr. Vinciguerra has been chief of the Don Monti Division of Oncology/Hematology since 1987 and Professor of Medicine, New York University Medical Center, since 1993. He received his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and his medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School. Dr. Vinciguerra is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Oncology and Hematology. His internship, residencies and fellowships were spent at Georgetown University Hospital, New York Hospital and North Shore University Hospital. He has published approximately 200 professional articles and abstracts and has appeared in print and on television and radio on numerous occasions as an expert in his field. In 2009, the Joseph and Tita Monti-Vincent Vinciguerra Endowed Chair was established at North Shore University Hospital.
Steven L. Allen, M.D.
Dr. Allen is an Associate Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine. He is an Attending Physician, Associate Chief of Hematology at North Shore University Hospital, and an Associate Investigator at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Research Institute. Dr. Allen is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology. Among his many professional affiliations, he is a member of the Society for the Study of Blood, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the New York State Society of Medical Oncologists and Hematologists and the National Hemophilia Foundation. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the International Academy of Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis. Dr. Allen has worked on many research projects and published numerous reports, book chapters, reviews and abstracts. He is actively involved in correlative and translational research and has been the Principal Investigator for several phase I and II drug trials.
Ruthee-Lu Bayer, M.D.
Dr. Bayer is the Director of the Don Monti Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit. She received her undergraduate degree from Columbia University and her medical degree from the New York Medical College. Her internship, residency and Fellowship years were spent at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, followed by three years of practice at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Bayer was the recipient of the prestigious George M. Jaffin Scholarly Activity Award in 1997.
Thomas P. Bradley, M.D.
Dr. Bradley is director of the fellowship program in hematology and oncology at North Shore University Hospital. In this role, he supervises the educational experiences of the trainees who are studying to be physician specialists in these areas. Dr. Bradley is an assistant professor of medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology.
Dr. Bradley was awarded the title of Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1998, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the New York Society for the Study of Blood. He serves on the Medical Oncology committee of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), a cooperative group performing clinical trials. Dr. Bradley served on numerous committees at the medical school and was a leader in many areas. Dr. Bradley has received numerous awards in recognition of his medical care. He has been listed in the Castle-Connolly Guide to “The Best Doctors in the New York Metro Area†every year since 1999 and was honored as one of New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors†in 2003.
Daniel R. Budman, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Dr. Budman is the Associate Director of Oncology at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and Professor of Clinical Medicine at New York University. He is also one of the principal investigators for the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) and serves on their Board of Directors, Breast Committee, and Institutional Performance Committee. His major research interests have been the management of breast cancer, experimental therapeutics and clinical pharmacology. As such, he has published over 160 peer-reviewed articles, 130 abstracts, three book chapters on experimental agents, and was responsible for the CALGB 8541 dose intensity breast cancer adjuvant trial. He serves as an editor for two cancer journals. In addition, he previously served as the Vice Chairman of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Committee for the CALGB for a decade and was responsible for the introduction of new agents into the CALGB breast cancer trials. Currently, he serves as the Liaison of the New York State Society of Medical Oncologists and Hematologists for Therapeutics with the insurance industry in New York and is a Principal Investigator of the NCI sponsored Phase II New York Metro Consortium Trials Group.
Jane Carleton, M.D.
Dr. Carleton joined the staff of the Don Monti Division of Medical Oncology and Division of Hematology at North Shore University Hospital in 2002. Her focus is primarily on lung cancer and breast cancer. She is actively involved in clinical research and meets weekly with the interdisciplinary Lung Cancer Conference group, where challenging cases are reviewed. A Massachusetts native, Dr. Carleton graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed both her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at New England Medical Center in Boston. She then conducted two years of hematology research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Craig E. Devoe, M.D.
Dr. Devoe received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from SUNY at Stony Brook Medical School. His internship and residency was spent at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola and his Fellowship at SUNY Stony Brook. He was an attending physician for three years with the Queens-Long Island Medical Group, Hicksville, before joining the Don Monti Division.
James T. D’Olimpio, M.D.
Dr. D’Olimpio is the director of Supportive Oncology and the Palliative Care/Cancer Pain Service at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. He is triple Board Certified in the fields of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hospice/Palliative Medicine. Dr. D’Olimpio has an extensive history in oncology research and treatment. His research focuses primarily on the areas of symptom control, palliative care and cancer cachexia, and has been published in leading journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Investigation and JAMA. Among many professional organizations, Dr. D’Olimpio is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology; American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine; Multi-National Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), where he serves on its select cachexia research group; and CALGB (Cancer and Leukemia Group B), where he sits on the symptom control sub-committee. Dr. D’Olimpio also was the medical director for the Hospice Care Network in Westbury. He has lectured about symptom management throughout the country and in Europe and has appeared on CNN as a national expert in pain control. In 2003 he was inducted into “Who’s Who in America.â€
Laura L. Donahue, M.D.
Dr. Donahue joined the attending physician staff of the Don Monti Division of Hematology/Oncology in 1996. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology and Medical Oncology. Her office practice consists primarily of benign hematology and oncologic management of patients with breast cancer, lung cancer and GI malignancies. Dr. Donahue attended Case Western Reserve University and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1982 and a Masters of Science in Biochemistry in 1985. In 1990, she received her medical degree from Ohio State University. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as her Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.
Veena S. John, M.D.
Dr. John is an attending physician at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. She specializes in gynecological cancers, leukemia, lymphoma and bone marrow transplants. She is also involved in treating breast, colorectal, lung and gastric cancers, as well as hematological problems. In addition to running the oncology clinic with the fellows, Dr. John teaches and is co-principal investigator for GOG studies at the hospital. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and other organizations. Dr. John received both her graduate and medical degrees in Punjab, India. She completed her residency at New York Flushing Hospital Medical Center-Cornell University, and is board certified in internal medicine, oncology and hematology. Dr. John was a Don Monti Fellow from 1999 to 2002, during which time she became interested in bone-marrow transplantation.
Jonathan Kolitz, M.D.
Dr. Kolitz directs the Leukemia Service at the Don Monti Division of Hematology/Division of Oncology. A summa cum laude graduate of Columbia College, Dr. Kolitz obtained his medical degree at Yale and went through his residency training in internal medicine at North Shore and at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He remained at Memorial for 8 years, completing his fellowship training in hematology and medical oncology and serving as an attending physician on the Leukemia Service. Dr. Kolitz came to North Shore in 1990 and has been mainly dedicated to the care of patients with hematologic malignancies, including the acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndrome, the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas, Hodgkin’s Disease and multiple myeloma. He has served as a member of the Leukemia Core Committee of Cancer and Leukemia Group B since 1993, has been principal investigator on numerous cooperative group and industry-sponsored clinical trials focused on new therapeutic strategies, has authored 54 peer reviewed manuscripts and numerous abstracts and book chapters. He has presented his work at regional, national and international meetings.
Lora Weiselberg, M.D.
Dr. Weiselberg is the Chief of the Breast Cancer Service in the Don Monti Division of Medical Oncology and an associate professor of medicine at New York University School of Medicine. She received her education at the University of Pennsylvania and New York Medical College. Her clinical and academic focus has been on cancer chemprevention and breast cancer treatment. She has served as a principal investigator for the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project for NSUH/LIJ in both their breast cancer prevention trials, numerous breast cancer treatment trials, and in the upcoming colon polyp prevention trial.
